She’s Too Young to “Spoil”

You get the privilege of meeting all of your baby’s needs;  you fed her, change her diaper, provide her with love and attention. Each time you meet your baby’s needs, you provide an opportunity for a secure attachment and bonding experience for your baby. When your baby forms secure attachments, this benefits your baby well into the future. As your baby ages, she will be more willing to leave you for brief periods of time to explore her environment.

You may have heard that you should not pick up your baby each time they cry, however holding your child reinforces her sense of security and provides increased sensory input through touch. So at three or four months, she is too young to spoil, so go ahead and give her as much love and attention as you want.

**If you need a break from a crying baby, go ahead and take it! There is nothing wrong with putting a fussy baby in an empty crib for a few minutes while you take a few deep breaths and take a little break. Always take care of your most basic needs first.
